Health promotion & disease management clinics

The following clinics are run at the surgery:

Prescription review Asthma & Diabetic Clinics
The asthma and diabetic clinics are practice nurse run. The practice nurses are experienced and specially trained for this role. We seek to help our patients understand and manage their conditions. Our aims are to educate and advise people to maintain good health and prevent problems so that they will have a long and fulfilled life. We like to review each patient regularly depending on individual needs so that we can fulfil our aims.

Heart Clinic & Health Promotion Clinic
A nurse led clinic to provide optimal monitoring of patients with established coronary heart conditions, for example, myocardial infarction and angina. The clinic provides support and help to those who have had a cardiac event to try to prevent further problems. Patients are referred to the clinic by their GP or the hospital.

The Health Promotion Clinic is also nurse led and the primary aim is to reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes in healthy people. The clinic helps patients to understand their risks and take appropriate action to improve their health by life style changes. Patients can be referred by the GP, invited by letter or can make an appointment directly with Reception.

Blood Tests
Your GP or Nurse may refer you to have a blood test, which can be very useful in assessing your health and in diagnosing medical conditions. We have a specific person trained in taking bloods known as a Phlebotomist, though the Doctor or Nurse may also take your blood.

You will normally be advised of the type of blood test you need. If you are having a fasting glucose test, a lipids test or a glucose tolerance test, then you should not eat or drink from the evening before the test. If in doubt, please ask at Reception.

The results of most routine blood tests should be available within 48 hours, (though can take up to a week) after the test. Please call our results service on 01225 422911 between 2pm and 2.30pm Monday to Friday to obtain your results.

Medical Examinations
Some examinations such as HGV, PSV, Life Insurance etc are not covered by the NHS. If you are in doubt, it is advisable to check with the reception staff so they can book an appointment and tell you if a fee is involved. All fees are set in accordance with the recommended British Medical Association (BMA) standard rates. In addition, a fee is charged for the signing of all private health and other claim forms, passport applications and private letters based upon BMA rates.
