Clinics & Services

Antenatal Clinics

The practice provides complete care during pregnancy, birth and after delivery in co-operation with our community midwife and Princess Ann Wing of the Royal United Hospital. Please make an appointment with your doctor as soon as you think you are pregnant.

Cervical Smears

It is government policy to invite all women between the ages of 25 and 50 to have a smear once every 3 years and every 5 years if you are between 50-64. You will be informed by letter when your next test is due. The practice nurse or the doctor can carry out the procedure.


Although referral can be made to St Martins Hospital on the NHS, the practice also offers in-house Private Chiropody Services by Jane Yates MSSCh MBChA HPC every Friday at St James. Treatment of corns, calluses, hard skin, cracked heels and nail problems. Sessions 40 minutes £36.


Podiatry/foot care(for patients aged 60+)

You can refer yourself for podiatry and foot conditions, including:

  •  Painful foot problems or foot abnormalities
  • Ingrowing toenails, verrucas (but not corns, calluses or nail-cutting)

Contraception/Family Planning

A full family planning service is available from your doctor and the practice nurses, including provision of emergency contraception, coil fitting and implant.


Following assessment by your GP, he/she may decide that a course of counselling or cognitive behaviour therapy may be a suitable treatment for you if so you will be referred to talking therapy service provided by Avon & Wiltshire Partnership. We have fully trained counsellors who offer cognitive therapy workshops along with counselling and consultations which can be arranged by your doctor.


Children need several immunisations starting at two months old. These prevent potentially serious illnesses such as polio, tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, measles, mumps and rubella. We have weekly clinics for this but we may be able to offer appointments if you are unable to attend.

Minor Surgery

Some minor surgery is performed in the practice jointly by your doctor and nurse. This can include shoulder joint, tennis elbow injection, removal of small moles and skin tags. Talk to you GP if you have any queries.


Your GP may refer you to a physiotherapist for treatment. We have initial physiotherapy assessment appointments available at the surgery and appointments can be arranged by your doctor.

Travel Vaccines

The Practice has a limited Travel Vaccination service at the present time.

For on-line travel vaccine advice go to the Fit for Travel website.

Longer appointments are necessary for travel advice, please do not use the online appointment service, you will be asked to complete a travel check list prior to your appointment. You can only be seen once this is completed, you can pick it up from the surgery or download from underneath, please hand or email back to the surgery and either a nurse or rceptionist will ring you with an appointment.  

Procedure for Travel appointments at the moment as follows:

  • Complete a travel risk assessment form 
  • Hand/Post to reception to give to the nurses 
  • Nurse will phone you to inform you of vaccinations needed and if we can do it at the surgery
  • If we can appointment will be made which can be 20 minutes long. 
  • If we can't provide vaccinations, we can give you a print off, of your past vaccinations to take to a private clinic

Travel vaccinations is an additional service therefore appointments need to be booked in 6 weeks before travelling. If you’re travelling within less than 6 weeks you will need to contact the NOMAD clinic on 01341555061.
